BOSTON (Legal Newsline) – Massachusetts Attorney General Maura Healey has appointed Judge Lloyd Macdonald to the Massachusetts Gaming Commission.

A resident of Dartmouth and a native of New Bedford, Macdonald has spent four decades in the legal industry. He spent time as a superior court judge, mainly in Suffolk and Bristol counties, and also worked as both a criminal defense attorney and prosecutor. Healey cited this experience as a reason for the appointment.

“Judge Macdonald’s vast experience in law enforcement and criminal investigations, passion for the law, and integrity will make him an excellent gaming commissioner,” Healey said. “His knowledge and vision will be an asset to the commission and to the state.”

A graduate of Harvard University and Columbia Law School, Macdonald initially went to the Cambridge Institute of Criminology at Cambridge in England to work as a Ford Foundation Fellow. Afterwards, he moved back to Harvard to work on a comprehensive policy and procedures manual for the Cambridge Police Department. His recent work includes time at a private practice in Boston specializing in complex civil and white collar criminal litigation.

Macdonald fills the position vacated by Judge James McHugh.
