MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif. (Legal Newsline) - Google and Microsoft this week agreed to end a five-year battle over various technology patents.
The two companies, which have fought over mobile phones, Wi-Fi, software and other technology, issued a joint statement saying they have reached “an agreement on patent issues.”
“As part of the agreement, the companies will dismiss all pending patent infringement litigation between them, including cases related to Motorola Mobility,” the statement read.
Google acquired Motorola in 2011, inheriting a patent infringement lawsuit brought against the company by Microsoft in 2010 along with Motorola’s countersuit.
Microsoft has argued that Google’s Android operating system infringes many of its patents.
“Separately, Google and Microsoft have agreed to collaborate on certain patent matters and anticipate working together in other areas in the future to benefit our customers,” the two companies said.
The statement said little else regarding the companies’ agreement. The financial terms are confidential.
