Parsons Government Services pays to solve False Claims Act allegations

Parsons Government Services Inc. recently made an agreement to pay the United Sates $3.8 million to solve allegations that the company violated the False Claims Act.

The allegations stated that Parsons Government Services knowingly charged the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) the wrong amount for inflated or ineligible long-term and short-term employee relocation costs. The relocations were part of the company’s contract with the DOE Salt Waste Processing Facility Project (SWPF) based in the Aiken, S.C., at the DOE Savannah River site.

“Those who expect to do business with the government must do so fairly and honestly,” said principal deputy assistant attorney general Benjamin C. Mizer, head of the Justice Department’s Civil Division. “Today’s settlement demonstrates the Department of Justice will pursue contractors that knowingly seek taxpayer funds to which they are not entitled.”

Officials say the resolution demonstrates South Carolina’s commitment to its citizens and taxpayers.

“The District of South Carolina continues to devote significant resources to pursuing claims under the False Claims Act, and this is yet another example of how this commitment is benefiting the taxpayers by recovering funds for the government,” said U.S. Attorney William N. Nettles of the District of South Carolina.
