JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (Legal Newsline) - A former county prosecutor is running for Missouri attorney general.
Teresa Hensley, a Democrat, announced her candidacy last week, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reported.
Hensley currently works at a private law firm in Raymore. She served as Cass County prosecutor until she lost re-election last year.
She most likely will face St. Louis County Assessor Jake Zimmerman, a former assistant attorney general, in the state’s Democratic primary.
State Sen. Scott Sifton, a Democrat, has dropped out of the race. He has decided to seek re-election instead.
Current Attorney General Chris Koster, a Democrat, is not seeking re-election next year. He is running for governor.
Also vying to fill Koster’s shoes: Republicans Kurt Schaefer and Josh Hawley.
Schaefer is a state senator and former assistant attorney general. Hawley is a constitutional law professor who served as co-counsel on the landmark U.S. Supreme Court case Burwell v. Hobby Lobby Stores.
