Texas AG race: Davis receives last minute endorsement from Hillary

By David Yates | Oct 30, 2014

AUSTIN, Texas (Legal Newsline) – Texas state Sen. Wendy Davis, the Democratic gubernatorial nominee, has received a last minute endorsement from another first lady.

Already endorsed by Michelle Obama, Davis, on her Twitter account linked an endorsement from former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton on Thursday morning.

The graphic framing the endorsement reads: “Wendy Davis is running a tough, strong campaign for Texas Governor. That’s no surprise, because Wendy has shown us time and time again that she never backs down, whether she’s fighting for Texas school children or working to create an economy that works for all Texans. And we all remember Wendy’s immense courage in fighting to protect women’s access to health care, which remains an inspiration to me and so many others.”

Earlier this month, Clinton sent out an email to Democrats nationwide, requesting they donate to Davis’ campaign.

Davis and her Republican opponent, Attorney General Greg Abbott, have raised a combined total of $83 million this election cycle.

According to the latest round of campaign finance reports, Davis’ campaign has raised $37 million, with the Abbott camp collecting $45 million.

A CBS poll conducted from Oct. 16–23 showed Abbott leading by 20 points, with likely Texas voters favoring him over Davis by a 57-37 percent margin.
