Minn. U.S. Senate race: Franken leads in polls and in cash

Franken

SAINT PAUL, Minn. (Legal Newsline) – Comedian and current U.S. Sen. Al Franken is leading his Republican challenger, Mike McFadden, in the polls and in cash raised.

Although Franken has less than 50 percent of the total vote, Minnesota voters still favor him over McFadden by a 49-41 percent margin, according to a Rasmussen Reports survey released on Thursday.

Franken also has the edge in cash raised.

As of July 23, Franken had raised more than $25 million and maintained $4.3 million cash on hand, according to opensecrets.org.

In stark contrast, McFadden had raised a little more than $4.1 million and had $1.3 remaining in his war chest as of July 23.

Lawyers and law firms are the primary groups funding Franken, accounting for $1.2 million of his total contributions since 2009.

In the last five years, attorneys for the Houston law firm Susman Godfrey have given Franken a total of $68,410, making the civil litigation firm the senator’s No. 1 contributor in that time frame, according to opensecrets.org.

Rasmussen Reports surveyed 750 likely Minnesota voters from Sept. 29-30.
