HOUSTON (Legal Newsline) – On Thursday, Texans for Lawsuit Reform PAC endorsed the election of Justice Jeff Boyd to the Supreme Court of Texas.

Gov. Rick Perry appointed Boyd, the only justice who ran uncontested in the March Republican primary, to the high court in 2012.

“Justice Jeff Boyd has proven to be a diligent and conscientious justice on the Texas Supreme Court,” said Richard Trabulsi, Jr., board chairman of TLRPAC.

“He is committed to following the Constitution and the plain reading of Texas law and is a great asset to our nationally-respected Texas Supreme Court. Prior to joining the Supreme Court, Jeff Boyd had an accomplished career as a litigator and he is widely respected as an honorable and exceptionally able person. TLRPAC is proud to endorse his re-election.”

Boyd will face Gina Benavides, a Democrat; Don Fulton, a Libertarian; and Charles E. Waterbury, a Green Party candidate, in the general election.

Before his appointment to the Texas Supreme Court, Boyd served as chief of staff and general counsel to Perry. He served as deputy attorney general at the Texas Attorney General’s office and worked as a senior partner at Thompson & Knight LLP. He has been a member of the Supreme Court Advisory Committee since 2003.

Boyd earned his undergraduate degree from Abilene Christian University and his law degree, graduating summa cum laude, from Pepperdine University.

TLRPAC is the political arm of Texans for Lawsuit Reform, the state's largest civil justice reform organization.
