Braley begins airing TV ad touting support for Iowa National Guard

WATERLOO, Iowa (Legal Newsline) – U.S. Rep. and Senate-candidate Bruce Braley, a Democrat, began airing a new television ad Monday touting his support for the Iowa National Guard.

During the 30-second spot, veteran Todd Prichard, 133rd Infantry Regiment, details his unit’s extended deployment to Iraq and how Braley fought to ensure Iowa soldiers received the back pay owed to them for their service.

“We were the longest serving unit in the history of the Iraq conflict. Because of our extension we were entitled to additional pay, and we weren’t getting paid,” says Prichard in the ad. “Bruce Braley went to bat for us and made sure we were paid.”

Braley will face Republican state Rep. Joni Ernst, a lieutenant colonel in the guard, in the general election.

Braley, a plaintiffs lawyer by trade and former head of the Iowa Trial Lawyers Association, received an abundance of media attention for his past remarks concerning Republican Sen. Chuck Grassley being a “farmer.”

In January, Braley told a group of trial lawyers at a Corpus Christi, Texas, fundraiser he needs their “help” to stop Grassley – an Iowa farmer prior to launching his extensive career in Congress – from becoming the next chair of the Senate Judiciary Committee.
