Fla. governor race: Raising minimum wage part of Crist’s job creation plan

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (Legal Newsline) – By raising minimum wage and pumping more money into education, Charlie Crist, the Democratic candidate for Florida governor, believes he can create more jobs.

The former Republican governor, Crist, who will face current Republican Gov. Rick Scott, announced on Tuesday his plan to create more jobs, which is entitled: “Fair Shot Florida, Charlie Crist’s middle class jobs and opportunity plan.”

In addition to raising minimum wage to $10.10 an hour, Crist’s jobs plan calls for restoring public school funding, extending health care coverage, making higher education and vocational training more affordable, and lastly bringing schools and business together.

“Under Rick Scott, the scales are tipped in favor of the wealthy, the special interests, and the corporations,” said Crist. “‘Fair Shot Florida’” is about giving everyday Floridians a chance at success.”

Over the past few months, Crist and Scott have been neck and neck in the polls.

A SurveryUSA Election Poll released Tuesday showed Scott up by two points, with voters favoring him by a 45-43 percent margin.

A series of older Quinnipiac polls showed Crist leading Scott 48-38 percent in April, 46-38 percent in January and 47-40 percent in a November.

A June 10 Public Policy Polling survey had the candidates tied at 42 percent apiece.
