Attorney General Harris offering resource guide to trafficking and slavery disclosure

Attorneygeneral

California Attorney General Kamala Harris released a resource guide to help companies doing business in California with disclosing efforts to prevent and eliminate human trafficking and slavery in their product supply chains on Monday.

"The California Transparency in Supply Chains Act: A Resource Guide" gives businesses recommendations on developing and refining disclosures to consumers.

“Human trafficking profits from exploiting the most vulnerable in our society and often extends to factories, farms and construction sites,” Harris said.

The California Transparency in Supply Chains Act requires large manufacturers and retailers that do business in California to reveal on their websites their efforts to remove slavery and human trafficking from their direct supply chain. The act only applies to companies with annual worldwide gross receipts over $100 million.

Explanations of each of the act’s requirements and model disclosures inspired by company website disclosures are featured in the resource guide. The model disclosures are intended to help businesses develop their personal effective disclosures that comply with the act and to educate the public about the integrity of their supply chains.

“This guide will help companies disclose efforts to eradicate human trafficking from their supply chains and empower consumers to make informed purchasing decisions,” Harris said.
