JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (Legal Newsline) - Missouri Attorney General Chris Koster announced a settlement on Friday with a California-based company and its owner for allegedly failing to abide by state telemarketing laws.

Under the terms of the settlement, Avid Advertising and Ben Martin, the company's owner, agreed to follow Missouri telemarketing laws in the future, pay $5,000 in penalties and provide evidence against AuthentiSource Corporation of California, a co-defendant in the lawsuit.

"My office will preserve the dinner hour in Missouri," Koster said. "We will pursue any company that violates Missouri's telemarketing and no-call laws."

Koster filed a lawsuit in St. Louis County alleging that Martin and Avid Advertising provided the technology to let AuthentiSource Corporation display the name Diabetic Group on the caller ID of consumers. AuthentiSource is not related to any diabetic groups. Avid Advertising and Martin also allegedly allowed AuthentiSource to display multiple false telephone numbers so that it could avoid law enforcement detection when it made calls to Missouri residents on the no-call list.

AuthentiSource and Steve Bath, the company's owner, are still defendants in the lawsuit.
