Calif. company settles with Arizona over air quality permit

Horne

PHOENIX (Legal Newsline) - Arizona Attorney General Tom Horne and the Department of Environmental Quality announced a $45,000 settlement on Friday with a Santa Barbara, California-based linen supply company for not having an air quality permit for its Flagstaff facility.

During a January 2011 inspection, the ADEQ found that the Mission Linen Supply plant was operating an industrial boiler, three commercial dryer units and a steam finisher without an air quality permit. The ADEQ submitted a notice of violation to Mission Linen Supply in March 2011 for operating the facility without the permit. The company submitted a permit application and returned to compliance in May 2011.

"Arizona companies must comply with the requirements that protect our air quality," Horne said. "This settlement is a reasonable resolution for a company that operated improperly."

The consent judgment is currently awaiting approval by the Maricopa County Superior Court.

Henry Darwin, ADEQ's director, said that companies must properly review their operations to make sure that they are in compliance with environmental laws. He said that Mission Linen Supply promptly came into compliance after the identification of the violation.

Mission Linen Supply provides supplies, services and products to commercial and medical facilities and has 52 facilities in Oregon, Texas, New Mexico, California and Arizona.
