Boehner: Too many regulations against businesses

Boehner

WASHINGTON (Legal Newsline) - House Speaker John Boehner started the 12th annual Legal Reform Summit by criticizing the amount of federal regulations that affect businesses.

Boehner, a Republican from Ohio, gave the Legislative Keynote Wednesday at the event, which is put on by the Institute for Legal Reform. The ILR is an affiliate of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce and owns Legal Newsline.

Boehner said the country is "facing a federal regulatory onslaught like nothing we've ever seen."

Boehner has been critical of President Barack Obama's jobs plan, saying that job creators are basically on strike because of overregulation.

The debt crisis and the current tax system are also to blame, he said. Boehner called the tax system "not competitive" and noted 5,000 changes to the tax code in the past 10 years.

He said the current administration has a "reluctance to do what needs to be done that mystifies me."

"I don't want dirty air. I don't want dirty water. It's about doing what makes sense," Boehner said.
