HARRISBURG, Pa. (Legal Newsline) - Pennsylvania Attorney General Linda Kelly announced an assurance of voluntary compliance on Monday with American Laser Skincare to resolve allegations over a no-refund policy.
Kelly's Health Care Section alleged that American Laser Skincare, formerly known as American Laser Center, allegedly withheld the entirely of pre-paid services plan funds when consumers discontinued services. The company also allegedly had ambiguous language regarding result guarantees. American Laser Skincare operates six clinics in five Pennsylvania counties, including facilities in King of Prussia, Willow Grove, Allentown, Langhorne, Greentree and Philadelphia.
According to its website, American Laser Skincare is the nation's largest and leading provider of laser based skincare services, including body shaping, skin tightening, cellulite treatment, laser hair removal, microdermabrasion, Botox and skin rejuvenation.
The company has paid more than $19,000 in consumer restitution and will pay restitution to any consumer who files a legitimate complaint within 60 days. The AVC also requires that American Laser Skincare change specific language regarding its cancellation policy, disclaimers and appearance plan. In addition, the company agreed to only retain a pro-rated service fee for written cancellation. These changes will be made in promotional materials and consumer contracts used within Pennsylvania.
American Laser Skincare will also pay the state civil penalties and attorneys costs.
