Suthers' settles with company that allegedly sold free documents

DENVER (Legal Newsline) - Colorado Attorney General John Suthers announced a settlement with a Colorado Springs, Colo.-based immigration services company over alleged fraudulent activity.

Simply Done Immigration and Joseph Corrigan, its owner, allegedly sold immigration documents to consumers that could have been freely obtained from the federal U.S. Center for Immigration Services. The company also allegedly falsely claimed that "document specialists" would provide consumers with assistance when its sales staff actually included neither attorneys or specialists in immigration law.

Customers were allegedly charged fees from $300 to $1,000 by Simply Done Immigration to obtain immigration documents that were available to them at no cost on a government website.

Consumers were also allegedly misled by Simply Done that it was associated with the federal government through representations made over the phone and fees that mirrored the filing fees associated with the documents.

Simply Done Immigration and Corrigan, under terms of the settlement, are barred from offering immigration services in Colorado and must pay $20,000 in consumer restitution.
