JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (Legal Newsline) - Missouri Attorney General Chris Koster filed a lawsuit Monday against an Osage Beach, Mo., man and the company he operates over multiple alleged violations of Missouri's Safe Drinking Water Law.
Koster alleges that George Tucker, who operates the Paradise Tropical Restaurant and Bar in Sunrise Beach, Mo., violated state drinking water regulations in his restaurant.
The suit alleges that the restaurant, owned by Tucker Investments LLC, failed to monitor for microbiological contaminants in its water, failed to implement changes that the Missouri Department of Natural Resources required of him to bring the system into compliance, and failed to meet bacteriological requirement for absence of total and fecal coliform in the water.
Koster is seeking an injunction to require Tucker and Tucker Investments to comply with the Safe Drinking Water Law. Koster also seeks all costs associated with the case and a civil penalty of $50 per day for the first violation and $100 per day for each additional violation.
"Businesses that serve the public must understand that they have not only a moral obligation, but also a legal obligation, to make sure the drinking water they provide to consumers is safe," Koster said. "There is simply no excuse to violate these laws, and this office will continue to see they are vigorously enforced."
