Conn. AG keeps eye on Borders closings

Jepsen

HARTFORD, Conn. (Legal Newsline) - Connecticut Attorney General George Jepsen has warned consumers that, in addition to six previously announced store closures, two more Borders retail stores in Connecticut will close by April 30.

Borders retail stores in Fairfield and Stamford will close following an announcement last week by Borders Group Inc., which designated 28 additional store closings nationwide.

The Fairfield and Stamdford shutterings join previously announced store closings in Danbury, Manchester, Milford, Simsbury, Southbury and Wilton.

Borders gift cards, Borders Rewards Plus Loyalty Program Discounts, Borders Bucks and merchandise will be accepted at all of the closing stores, as well as those that will continue to operate.

"As Borders proceeds through bankruptcy, the interests of Connecticut's consumers will continue to be protected by my office," Jepsen said.

Consumers may return items purchased in the Fairfield and Stamford stores prior to March 24 with original receipts and subject to the store return policy in effect at the time the item was purchased. Items purchased at the closing stores sales may only be returned for a defect not apparent at purchase. Those returns also require a receipt.

Closing sales at the Fairfield and Stamford stores will end no later than May 31, with merchandise sold "as is" at those stores.
