LANNON, Wis. (Legal Newsline) - Wisconsin Attorney General J.B. Van Hollen announced on Wednesday that his office has filed a civil complaint and a civil judgment against a mining corporation that allegedly violated state environmental laws.
Mill Valley Corporation is an operator of a non-metallic mining business with its principal operation at the Village of Lannon in Wisconsin, as well as quarry operations at several locations throughout the state.
The company allegedly didn't have the correct plans regarding stormwater pollution prevention plans at its state facilities at Jackson, Lannon and Sussex.
Van Hollen alleges that discharges at the Lannon quarry harshly impacted one acre of wetland and four acres of primary environmental corridor land connected to the wetlands. The suit also alleges similar and additional violations at the Richfield quarry.
Mill Valley Corporation has agreed to pay $200,000 in forfeitures, statutory surcharges and costs immediately upon execution of the judgment.
Additionally, the company will implement all of the activities required by its accepted stormwater pollution prevention plan. It has also agreed to purchase 1.5 acres of wetland bank credit as consideration for the damage to the onsite wetland.
