Horne ready to take AG race in Arizona

Horne

PHOENIX (Legal Newsline) - Tom Horne, the Arizona Superintendent of Public Instruction, was poised to win the state attorney general race early Wednesday.

Horne led Felecia Rotellini by 6 percentage points with 92.2 percent of precincts reporting, according to azcentral.com. Horne, a Republican, led Rotellini by more than 67,000 votes. Rotellini formerly worked in both the civil and criminal diviions of the state Attorney General's Office.

Horne will replace Democrat Terry Goddard, who ran for governor. Rotellini and Horne had both survived their primaries with slim wins.

Horne defeated Andrew Thomas by 0.2 percent, while Rotellini earned 41.2 percent of the Democratic vote to David Lujan's 40.2.

It took almost a week after the primary for Horne to learn he had won. Lujan didn't concede until two days after the election.

Horne recently said fostering a legal environment that encourages business growth will be a priority, according to Prescott News.

"My third priority is to create a legal environment that is conducive to business growth," Horne said, according to the report.

"If you don't have a legal environment that will attract business to Arizona and that will grow business in Arizona, everything else fails. To do that, you have to prosecute crimes when crimes are being committed and you have to have a spirit of cooperation that is ethical."
