Cuccinelli, Allen to gather with Tea Party leaders

ARLINGTON, Va. (Legal Newsline) -- Virginia Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli and former Virginia Gov. George Allen announced Tuesday they will join conservative and Tea Party leaders on election night.

The two said they will join hosts Richard Viguerie, chairman of ConservativeHQ.com, and Morton Blackwell, president of the Leadership Institute, in a victory party for 350 conservative and Tea Party activists on Nov. 2 at the Leadership Institute's headquarters in Arlington, Virginia.

ConservativeHQ.com is described as a website dedicated to "relaunching the conservative movement." According to its site, it focuses on "the real threat to conservative victory: Big-Government Republicans."

The Leadership Institute's mission, according to its website, is to increase the number and effectiveness of conservative activists and leaders in the public policy process. "To accomplish this mission, the Institute identifies, recruits, trains, and places conservatives in government, politics, and the media."

Viguerie said in a statement on Tuesday, "Forsaking traditional Republican Party events in favor of the conservative Tea Party event, both Mr. Cuccinelli and Mr. Allen understand where the future of the party lies -- in the movement that has re-energized our conservative principles and whose candidates will be the leaders of the next Congress."

The event also will serve as "conservative central" for immediate reaction to the election results, organizers said.

Other key conservative leaders who will be attending the event include: Brent Bozell, president of the Media Research Center; Kellyanne Conway, president of the polling company, inc.; Jenny Beth Martin and Mark Meckler, co-founders and national coordinators of the Tea Party Patriots; Grover Norquist, president of Americans for Tax Reform; Tony Perkins, president of the Family Research Council; and Tim Phillips, president of Americans for Prosperity.

Cuccinelli, a Tea Party supporter, has blasted President Barack Obama's policies in recent months, calling them "utterly destructive" and has compared the president's administration to the British during the Revolutionary period.

The attorney general, who filed his own lawsuit separate from 21 other states against the federal health care law, contends the federal government doesn't have the right under the Constitution to order people to buy its health insurance or to impose a fine if they don't.

Cuccinelli has said he will continue to challenge the Obama administration's policies.

Meanwhile, Allen reportedly attended a Virginia Tea Party Patriots Convention earlier this month.
