JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (Legal Newsline) - Missouri Attorney General Chris Koster announced on Wednesday that his office has obtained a judgment in a clean water violations lawsuit resulting in $8,000 in fines.
Tahoe-Ozark Land Investment LLC allegedly operated an ultraviolet disinfection wastewater treatment system for Captains Galley, a Camdenton restaurant, instead of the required dechlorination system.
The system discharged water contaminants with levels of effluent in violation of limits set by the law into the Lake of the Ozarks. The company also was accused of failing to maintain the facility, allowing buildup of sludge and corrosion and allowing sediment and trash to clog the weir trough.
"Missourians have a right to expect that waste systems are installed in compliance with the law so they won't pollute our water," Koster said. "Our office will not look the other way when businesses fail to comply with the law."
Under the judgment, Tahoe-Ozark Land Investment paid $8,000 in civil penalties and has agreed to fix any problems in their wastewater treatment system.
