Del. AG Biden suffers apparent stroke

Biden

NEWARK, Del. (Legal Newsline) - Delaware Attorney General Beau Biden is in the hospital after apparently suffering a mild stroke.

A statement released early Tuesday by Biden's father, Vice President Joe Biden, said Beau was alert and awake at Christiana Medical Center.

Later, the vice president's Web site released another statement, this one from Dr. Timothy Gardner.

"Delaware Attorney General Beau Biden was admitted this morning to Christiana Hospital in Newark after having what we believe to be a mild stroke," said Gardner, the Medical Director of the Center for Heart and Vascular Surgery at Chrstiana.

"He is in good spirits and talking with his family at the hospital. He is fully alert, in stable condition and has full motor and speech skills. We expect him to make a complete recovery."

Biden, 41, has been the state's attorney general since 2007. This year, he turned down the opportunity to run for the U.S. Senate seat vacated by his father.

Biden, a member of the Delaware National Guard who recently served a one-year tour of duty in Iraq, said one of the main reasons he ran for attorney general was to help children from predators, and it's a reason he's staying attorney general.
