Cuomo seeks $1M in unpaid wages from Manhattan restaurant

Cuomo

NEW YORK (Legal Newsline) - Attorney General Andrew Cuomo filed a lawsuit against a Manhattan restaurant today, seeking to recover $1 million in unpaid wages and damages allegedly owed to its workers.

Named in the suit were the Liberty Thai Corp. d/b/a Lemongrass Grill, located at 84 Williams St. in Manhattan, and its owner Hann Low. The lawsuit alleges that workers at the restaurant worked 72-hour weeks without being paid minimum wage or overtime and that delivery workers were paid only $25 per day.

"Lemongrass Grill is the latest employer this office is holding accountable for cheating hardworking New Yorkers out of fair pay," Cuomo said in a statement. "Today's action should be a message to companies and individuals across the State that such blatant violations of New York's labor laws come with a price."

The lawsuit claims that Low knowingly paid his employees illegally low wages, and failed to keep proper records of hours and wages as required by law. In addition to seeking unpaid wages, the suit seeks damages owed to the restaurant's delivery workers, bussers, dishwashers and food preparers.
