AG candidate Harris rasies $1.2 million

Kamala Harris (D)

SAN FRANCISCO (Legal Newsline)-California attorney general candidate Kamala Harris has raised $1.2 million since the start of the year, her campaign said.

At the end of last year, the San Francisco district attorney, a Democrat, only had $117,000 in her attorney general's campaign account.

Harris's campaign has received financial contributions from Hollywood stars including Oscar-winning actor Sean Penn of "Milk," television star Eric Dane of "Grey's Anatomy," Warner Brothers executive producer Charles Lorre, former Paramount Pictures CEO Sherry Lansing and Jo Schuman, producer of the musical revue, "Beach Blanket Babylon."

Harris got the maximum $6,500 donation from Esprit Clothing co-founder Susie Tompkins Buell, who was a former presidential fundraiser for Hillary Clinton.

Harris was a very early supporter of Barack Obama when he was seeking the Democratic presidential nomination.

Also seeking the Democratic nomination for attorney general is: state Assemblymen Ted Lieu of Torrance and Pedro Nava of Santa Barbara, former Assemblyman Joe Canciamilla, Facebook executive Chris Kelly, and former Los Angeles City Attorney Rocky Delgadillo.

On the Republican side, state Sen. Tom Harmon of Huntington Beach is seeking to succeed Attorney General Jerry Brown, who is widely expected to run for governor.
