COLUMBIA, S.C. (Legal Newsline) - A couple of South Carolina judges are again attempting to earn a spot on the state Supreme Court.
Thirteenth Judicial Circuit Judge John Few and Court of Appeals Chief Judge Kaye Hearn are among five candidates to replace the retiring Justice John Waller, a report in The Greenville News says.
Few was a finalist last year when the Legislature selected John Kittredge to the Court. Hearn, meanwhile, has twice been a finalist, the report adds. Other candidates are Family Court Judge Eugene Moorhead, Ninth Judicial Circuit Judge Deadra Jefferson and Court of Appeals Judge H. Bruce Williams.
Few was elected to his current post in 2000, then re-elected to a six-year term in 2006. He turns 46 on Thursday.
Hearn was elected to the Court of Appeals in 1995 and chief judge in 1999. She had been elected a family court judge in 1986.
The report says the State Judicial Merit Selection Commission will screen the candidates on Monday. Three applicants will be nominated for the Legislature to pick from.
