Corbett files paperwork to make run for governor

Corbett

HARRISBURG, Pa. (Legal Newsline) - Pennsylvania Attorney General Tom Corbett has apparently entered the 2010 race for governor.

On Monday, Corbett filed the necessary paperwork, according to the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review, to organize an exploratory committee. Corbett, a Republican, was elected attorney general in 2004 and re-elected last year.

He also was appointed to the spot in 1995 by Gov. Tom Ridge on the condition he would not run in 1996, as was insisted by Senate Democrats.

A Feb. 23 report in The Daily Review of Towanda said Corbett criticized Gov. Ed Rendell during a speech at the Bradford County Republican Committee's Lincoln Day Dinner.

"The governor is suggesting that we offer financial assistance to thousands of students to attend our 14 universities and our 14 community colleges," Corbett said, according to the report.

"That sounds great. That's an easy thing to say. But how does he want to pay for it? He wants to legalize illegal video poker. What kind of an example does that set for the next generation?"
