MADISON, Wis. (Legal Newsline)-Wisconsin Supreme Court Chief Justice Shirley Abrahamson, who has a gigantic fundraising lead in her reelection bid, has begun airing campaign ads today.
The first ad of the state's Supreme Court race, a 30-second spot entitled "Rise," features testimonials from a range of public officials who are supporting Abrahamson's reelection.
"These testimonials underscore Chief Justice Abrahamson's commitment to standing up for Wisconsin," campaign manager Heather Colburn said Monday. "Chief Justice Abrahamson has fought hard to ensure that the court system makes the lives of Wisconsinites better - and that's why so many people are using their voice to support her."
Abrahamson is vying for another 10-year term on the state's highest court. Abrahamson was appointed to the high court in 1976. She was elected to the Supreme Court in 1979, 1989, and 1999. She has served as chief justice since 1996.
The chief justice is being challenged by challenger Jefferson County Circuit Judge Randy Koschnick. The nonpartisan election is April 7.
Koschnick was elected county judge in 1999. He previously worked as a public defender.
As of last month, Abrahamson had raked in raised $822,600 last year in campaign contributions, while Koschnick brought in just $14,715, campaign finance reports indicated.
