Martha Coakley (D)

BOSTON (Legal Newsline) -- Massachusetts Attorney General Martha Coakley has obtained a preliminary injunction against process server Stokes & Levin, Inc. for allegedly falsifying the service of legal papers.

The injunction prohibits the company and its operator, Darren Stokes, from advertising legal services, accepting money for serving legal papers and forming another legal process business or operating under a different name.

The injunction stems from an October 2008 complaint that claimed the company filed documents on multiple occasions with courts that indicated they had served the documents on the intended recipients.

Coakley claims the company had not served the documents at all and thus left individuals exposed to potential liability in cases they may have been unaware of, a statement said.
