No major glitches in Ohio's Franklin County

No major glitches and no lawsuits were reported in the voting booths of Ohio's capital today, said Michael Stinziano, director of Franklin County Board of Elections.

The only known issue to arise in Franklin County, where Columbus is located, was a returned notification card, Stinziano said.

Poll workers were notified that some people's notification was returned, which meant they weren't allowed to vote.

However, the returned notification designation applied to too many people, including those to whom it should not have applied, Stinziano said.

Once the problem was discovered, poll workers were told to give anybody with a returned notification a regular ballot, Stinziano said.

Stinziano is unsure whether the expected 80 percent of the 8.3 million registered voters showed up today.

Some precincts did report an 85 to 90 percent voter turnout, he said.

"It's been steady and brisk," Stinziano said. "There were early lines. Around 10 in the morning it slowed down and remained slow."

A majority of the polling places closed at their scheduled 7:30 time, Stinziano said.

Results from today's votes may begin rolling in around 10:30 or 11 tonight, he said.

The results of the absentee ballots should begin to be released around 8:30.
