Corbett reaches settlement agreement with N.J. moving company

Tom Corbett (R)

HARRISBURG, Pa. (Legal Newsline) -- Pennsylvania Attorney General Tom Corbett has reached a settlement agreement with a New Jersey moving company after his office received numerous consumer complaints of improprieties.

South Burlington, N.J.-based A Plus Family Movers, Inc. was accused of losing or damaging the personal belongings of Pennsylvania residents. The company was also charged with underestimating the costs of their services and then demanding higher fees be paid upon delivery.

"The total price of a product or service is a key factor in any purchase, and is something that needs to be disclosed to consumers up front," Corbett said. "Advertising a low price and charging more after the fact is unfair both to consumers and the other businesses."

According to the settlement, A Plus Family Movers will repay the overcharged customers and reimburse them for lost or damaged property.

The company will also ensure additional supervision during moving, provide additional training and maintain policies to ensure timely responses to complaints.

The settlement was reached as part of the Assurance of Voluntary Compliance.
