W.V. AG endorses Mooney for Congress

Morrisey

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. (Legal Newsline) - A Republican nominee running for Congress has received an endorsement from West Virginia Attorney General Patrick Morrisey.

On May 13, Alex Mooney beat out a crowded field of Republican to win his party's nomination to run for the state's Second Congressional District. He will face Democrat Nick Casey in the general election.

Mooney and Casey seek to replace the Republican incumbent, Rep. Shelley Moore Capito, who is running for Senate against Secretary of State Natalie Tennant.

The attorney general endorsed Mooney's candidacy on Tuesday.

"Alex Mooney is a committed fighter who will stand up for West Virginia jobs and conservative values in Congress," Morrisey said.

"Alex Mooney has a proven record of standing up to big government special interests, and I know he's ready to fight for us in Congress. I know Alex Mooney will fight against Obamacare and will be a strong ally in our efforts to protect coal miners and stand strong against EPA overreach."

Mooney was honored to receive the endorsement.

"I am honored to receive the endorsement of Attorney General Patrick Morrisey," Mooney said. "Under his leadership, his office has challenged business-as-usual, working to advance reforms that promote freedom and the rule of law. In Congress, I will challenge the status quo in Washington, standing up for our West Virginia jobs and working to defeat President Obama's disastrous policies."

Mooney was a member of the Maryland state Senate from 1999 to Jan. 12, 2011.

His campaign focuses on defending West Virginia jobs and conservative values.
