WASHINGTON (Legal Newsline) - As more allegations that Veterans Affairs hospitals falsified patient data continue to surface, the Republican National Committee will use robocalls to drum up support for an investigation into the alleged scandal.
On Wednesday, the RNC announced that it launched a robocall and Twitter campaign urging Americans to call their representatives and ask for an independent investigation into the Department of Veterans Affairs, according to the RNC website.
"Under President Obama, veterans have not received the care they need and deserve at VA healthcare facilities," RNC chairman Reince Priebus said.
"Five years ago, President Obama said there was a problem at the VA and that he would fix it. But reports in recent months show that he failed to act and that the problems were far worse than many imagined. This is why the RNC will continue to demand accountability from the Obama administration, and we think Democrats should join in that effort. This shouldn't be a partisan issue. In the coming days and weeks-however long it takes-we will continue asking for accountability and an independent investigation."
The RNC's effort is targeting 10 Democrat lawmakers who it says have supported President Obama's agenda, including senators Mark Begich (Ark.), Mark Udall (Conn.), Mary Landrieu (La.), Kay Hagan (N.C.), Tom Udall (N.M.), Jeff Merkley (Ore.), and Mark Warner (Va.), as well as representatives Bruce Braley (Iowa), Gary Peters (Minn.), and Rick Weiland (S.D.).
All the senators on the RNC's list are up for re-election this year. Representatives Braley, Peters and Weiland are running for Senate.
