Sarahharris

WASHINGTON (Legal Newsline) -- One of AOL's top lawyers has been appointed the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office's new general counsel.

USPTO officials confirmed Sarah Harris' appointment Wednesday, according to IPO.org.

"I am honored and thrilled about the opportunity to work with (Deputy Director) Michelle Lee and the other incredibly impressive people at the USPTO," Harris said in a statement.

A start date has not been set.

Harris, who was the senior vice president and deputy general counsel for Intellectual Property at AOL, will replace Bernard Knight.

Knight left the USPTO in August to return to private practice.
