Northshore Publishers told to cut it out by N.D. AG

Stenehjem

BISMARCK, N.D. (Legal Newsline) - North Dakota Attorney General Wayne Stenehjem announced on Friday that his office issued a cease and desist order against a Malden, Mass.-based telemarketer for allegedly ignoring consumer fraud and Do Not Call laws.

John Galli, doing business as Northshore Publishers, Northshore Publishing and North Shore Marketing, solicited North Dakotans for magazine renewal subscriptions by telephone. Galli allegedly charged credit cards immediately in violation of the contract requirement for such sales, called individuals registered on the Do Not Call list, refused to cooperate with investigators and ignored subsequent phone calls, letters and a civil investigative demand from Stenehjem's office.

The cease and desist order bans Galli from conducting any business in the state.

"Galli apparently believes himself safe from any consequences of his law-breaking simply because he is located in another state," Stenehjem said. "That is not the case."

Stenehjem said that because Galli refused to provide any information about his allegedly illegal activities in North Dakota, it is impossible to know how many sales calls were made or how many individuals were charged for magazine renewal subscription.

If Galli violates the cease and desist order, he will be subject to a $1,000 penalty per violation, in addition to other penalties assessed for the alleged violations of consumer protection laws.
