Colo. AG obtains order against air duct cleaning companies

By Bryan Cohen | Nov 26, 2013

DENVER (Legal Newsline) -- Colorado Attorney General John Suthers obtained a temporary restraining order Monday against the owners of several air duct cleaning companies that allegedly violated the state's Consumer Protection Act.

Suthers filed a civil lawsuit against Andre Shatyko and Alexander Kurdyukov, the operators of multiple air duct cleaning companies, including Fresh Air LLC, Quality Air LLC, Quality Air, Seabreeze Air and Seabreeze Air LLC.

Shatyko and Kurdyukov allegedly advertised their cleaning services for very low prices, but significantly increased their prices after reaching a customer's home.

"Along with misrepresenting their prices, the defendants also perform shoddy, incomplete work using inadequate tools that leaves dust and debris in consumers' ductwork and sometimes causes damage to homes," Suthers said in a statement.

"Based on consumer complaints, defendants sometimes leave homes in worse shape than before service was performed."

Shatyko and Kurdyukov allegedly advertised their services for as little as $34.95. When workers arrived on site, they allegedly told consumers that additional charges would apply.

During the attorney general's inquiry into the defendants' companies, the defendants allegedly claimed they were no longer soliciting business in Colorado.

Suthers alleged Shatyko and Kurdyukov simply formed a new company and continued their deceptive business practices.

The attorney general's lawsuit is part of an ongoing effort to stop air duct cleaning companies that misrepresent their prices and perform unprofessional work.
