RICHMOND, Va. (Legal Newsline) -- A recent poll shows that state Sen. Mark Herring, a Democrat, is slightly leading fellow state Sen. Mark Obenshain, a Republican, in the race for Virginia attorney general.

The poll, an internal survey by the Democratic Party of Virginia, was obtained by Politico Sunday.

The survey, done by public opinion research firm Garin Hart Young, has Herring up by three points, 45 percent to 42 percent, over Obenshain.

According to Politico, the poll surveyed likely voters Oct. 22-23.

Other polls, including a survey released earlier this month by the University of Mary Washington's Center for Leadership and Media Studies, have shown Obenshain leading.

Republicans have won the last five elections for Virginia attorney general.

Current Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli is running for governor. He faces Democrat Terry McAuliffe in the state's Nov. 5 election.
