SALEM, Ore. (Legal Newsline) -- After taking notes from both opponents and supporters, Oregon Attorney General Ellen Rosenblum has rewritten a ballot title for an initiative on public employee unions.
The Oregonian reported last week that Rosenblum has come up with new wording for the title of a proposed ballot measure allowing state public employees to skip paying in-lieu fees to unions they do not want to join.
According to the newspaper, the attorney general's final ballot title is: Prohibits compulsory payment of union representation costs by public employees choosing not to join union.
Opponents and supporters had objected to Rosenblum's first try at a title. She had described the in-lieu payments, which are currently required, as "fair share" payments.
The Oregonian said the attorney general's final title is not exactly final.
According to the newspaper, it will most likely be appealed, by some party, to the state Supreme Court. The court will have the final say.
