Madigan settles with AAA Siding over telemarketing

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (Legal Newsline) - Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan filed a lawsuit on Thursday against a Springfield area business that allegedly violated the National Do Not Call Registry by soliciting residents on the registry.

Madigan also proposed an agreed settlement on Thursday with the Lincoln-based AAA Siding to resolve allegations that the company made telemarketing calls to Illinois consumers registered on the National Do Not Call Registry, including residents in Tazewell, Sangamon, Morgan and Macon counties.

Under the terms of the proposed settlement, AAA Siding would be barred from future violations of the registry, be required to train its telemarketing employees on the guidelines in the agreement and need to maintain telemarketing records for monitoring by Madigan's office to make sure it complies with the registry's regulations.

"The Do Not Call laws provide important protections to limit unwanted phone solicitations," Madigan said. "This company violated the registry laws by contacting Central Illinois residents."

After consumers register with the Do Not Call registry, companies may not make solicitation calls to their cell phones or homes unless they are calls from organizations with which consumers have an established business relationship, organizations that have received prior written consent, non-commercial organizations that do not include unsolicited advertisements and tax-exempt, nonprofit organizations.
