COLUMBUS, Ohio (Legal Newsline) - Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine announced the provision of a $4.35 million grant Wednesday to the Ohio Alliance of Boys & Girls Clubs for the Great Futures for Ohio's Kids growth program.

DeWine announced the grant at an event to mark national Boys & Girls Clubs Week. The organization provides a safe, positive place for children to spend their non-school hours with homework help, dedicated programming and meals.

"I've seen first-hand how Boys & Girls Clubs provide young people with a safe and supportive place to learn and grow, and I am pleased that we can provide funding to help expand them in Ohio so that even more kids can benefit from the Boys & Girls Clubs experience," DeWine said.

Boys & Girls Clubs will use the grant to expand the organization to three Ohio cities that did not previously have the program - Wooster, West Chester and Marietta. The organization will also create 13 new clubhouse sites to expand its reach to underserved communities in Marion County, Massillon, Lorain County, Columbus, Cleveland, Clermont County and Akron.

"We want this grant to encourage additional investments by others of time, talent and resources in Boys & Girls Clubs and to help them continue to improve the lives of Ohio's young people, and help them achieve their dreams," DeWine said.

The grant money is part of the National Mortgage Settlement reached with the nation's attorneys general last year.
