BOSTON (Legal Newsline) - Massachusetts Attorney General Martha Coakley announced a $105,000 agreement Wednesday with H Mart Boston LLC to resolve allegations that it improperly deducted for meal breaks and illegally rounded working hours in its favor.
Coakley's office received a complaint in February 2011 from a former employee of H Mart alleging that the company rounded employee hours to shorten their pay and that the company deducted excess time for employee meal breaks.
H Mart cooperated fully with Coakley's office on the matter.
Under the terms of the settlement, the store will pay restitution to 196 employees and former employees and will pay a penalty to the state.
Coakley's office enforces the laws regulating the payment of wages, misclassification of employees and overtime in the state.
