Idaho AG settles with coupon ad seller

Wasden

BOISE, Idaho (Legal Newsline) - Idaho Attorney General Lawrence Wasden announced a settlement Monday with the owner of a coupon ad seller who allegedly failed to deliver ads paid for by small business owners.

Under the terms of the settlement, Jason M. Rockne will pay $9,227 in restitution to small business owners in Idaho and $1,500 to Wasden's office to offset litigation costs. The agreement resolves Wasden's November 2011 lawsuit against Rockne and three of his companies - Angel Gift Network LLC, Idaho Publishing LLC, and Women Devine Publications LLC.

The lawsuit alleged that Rockne engaged in telephone solicitations under the assumed business name of American School Publishing without registering with Wasden's office. Rockne sold ads to business owners throughout Idaho, Wyoming, Washington, Utah, Montana, Oregon, Nevada and California in a publication called American School Publishing Outlook Bonus Books.

Rockne allegedly represented that he would provide the books to clients and would distribute thousands of copies of the books through other means. Rockne allegedly never printed or distributed the books.

"For any small business owner struggling to make every dollar count, the loss of even a few hundred dollars is distressing," Wasden said. "In this instance, small business owners reportedly never received the services they purchased. Mr. Rockne has now agreed to repay more than $9,000 to them."
