Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi obtained a permanent injunction on Thursday that effectively shuts down several Orlando businesses for allegedly “robocalling" consumers.

The businesses used recorded telephone calls, also called “robocalls,” to attempt to sell medical alert devices to senior citizens. The callers would claim that a family member had already purchased the devices for them. They also allegedly told the customers the devices were endorsed by health organizations.

“We must do everything within our power to protect Florida’s consumers," Bondi said. "The scheme we have stopped allegedly targeted Florida’s senior citizens, and we, along with our Federal Trade Commission partners, have held these individuals accountable."

All the companies involved, Worldwide Info Services Inc., Elite Information Solutions Inc., Absolute Solutions Group Inc., and Global Interactive Technologies Inc., have a lifetime ban for robocalling, or any other type of marketing.

“This case is a great example of how federal and state law enforcement can work together to stop fraudulent telemarketing targeting older consumers,” Jessica Rich, director of the Federal Trade Commission’s Bureau of Consumer Protection, said. “The FTC will continue to work with its state partners to protect senior citizens from pernicious schemes like this one.”
