The New Jersey Division of Consumer Affairs reached a settlement with JKM Products Corp., an arts and crafts supply company, following allegations of consumer fraud, Acting Attorney General John J. Hoffman announced on Tuesday.
Consumers accused the arts and crafts company, which is also known as JKM Ribbon & Trim and JKM Products, of failing to deliver ordered items. They also complained that they were unable to reach the company for months at a time to obtain information about their orders.
The $15,000 settlement includes $7,557.54 in civil penalties and $7,442.46 in reimbursement to the state to cover investigation and legal costs. The company, which is based in Berlin, New Jersey, also will provide restitution to 11 consumers.
For the next three years, the company also must report any consumer complaints and its efforts to resolve them to the state's Division of Consumer Affairs.
“Consumers have recourse under our consumer protection laws when they do not get the items they have paid for,” Hoffman said. “I encourage consumers to file complaints with the Division of Consumer Affairs whenever such problems occur with merchants.”
