BALTIMORE, Md. (Legal Newsline) – A Maryland consumer alleges she was injured by the actions of a professional corporation that claimed to offer debt relief.

Maria Hernandez filed a complaint May 11 in the Circuit Court for Anne Arundel County against National Consumer Law Group APA, Global Client Solutions and Mandip S. Purewal alleging violation of the Telemarketing and Consumer Fraud and Abuse Prevention Act, violation of the Maryland Debt Settlement Services Act and other counts.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff contacted National Consumer Law Group in May 2014 in response to a radio advertisement she heard stating that the defendant could help liquidate debt in a short amount of time. The suit states the plaintiff had several credit cards open and none were in default, but her salary had been reduced at her job. She contacted the defendant to consolidate her debts into one payment, the suit states.

The plaintiff alleges she signed contracts with the defendant and began making payments in May 2014. However, after a lawsuit over one of the credit card accounts and other issues, she terminated the agreement, the suit states. She alleges recent copies of her credit reports show that the accounts she entrusted to National Consumer Law Group were in default.

The plaintiff holds National Consumer Law Group APA Global Client Solutions and Mandip S. Purewal responsible because the defendants allegedly made false and misleading explanations to the plaintiff regarding their services and provided inaccurate legal advice.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks actual damages, punitive damages of more than $75,000, interest and all legal fees. She is represented by Kathleen P. Hyland of Hyland Law Firm LLC in Baltimore.

The case was removed to the U.S. District Court for the District of Maryland on June 29.
