Banks say Burger King fudged Central American expansion prospects to get loans

MIAMI (Legal Newsline) — A group of banks from Central America and the Caribbean is suing Burger King Corporation, based in Florida, alleging fraud and negligent misrepresentation regarding loans.

Banco Lafise S.A., Banco Lafise Panama S.A., Lafise Bank Limited, Banco Lafise Bancentro S.A., Banco Lafise (Honduras) S.A. and Fiduciatia Lafise S.A. filed a complaint on June 12 in U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida against Burger King, alleging that the fast food company made false statements about its expansion prospects in order to induce the plaintiffs into giving out loans.

According to the complaint, the plaintiffs allege that they were financially damaged from being induced into entering into loans with Burger King. The plaintiffs hold the defendant responsible because it allegedly issued false representations about its company's efforts to expand into Central America in order to defraud the plaintiff into making loans.

The plaintiffs seek general damages, court costs and any further relief this court grants. They are represented by Ronald P. Weil of Weil Quaranta P.A. in Miami.
