Vroom Inc. accused of sending spam texts

Phone 03

LOS ANGELES – A California individual has filed a class-action lawsuit against an online used car company alleging it sent spam texts to advertise its services.

Kevin Amini filed a complaint on behalf of others similarly situated on June 2 in the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California against Vroom Inc. alleging violations of the Telephone Consumer Protection Act.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that in March, he was contacted several times via text on his cellular telephone without his consent by the defendant. The plaintiff holds Vroom Inc. responsible because the defendant allegedly advertised its services using an autodialer in violation of the TCPA.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks $500 in statutory damages for each and every violation, injunctive relief, and any other relief as this court deems just. He is represented by Jessica R.K. Dorman and Joshua B. Swigart of Hyde & Swigart in San Diego.
