TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (Legal Newsline) — Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi has announced Florida will participate in a multistate and federal settlement with Olympus America Inc. that resolves allegations the company committed anti-kickback violations.
Olympus has agreed to pay a total of $306 million, plus interest, in civil damages to the states and federal government to compensate Medicaid, Medicare and other programs that suffered through its alleged violations.
The settlement comes after a whistleblower lawsuit. Olympus purportedly paid illegal kickbacks to health care providers, inducing doctors and hospital executives, to purchase its endoscopes and other surgical equipment.
Florida will receive a net share of more than $1.6 million as part of the agreement.
