NEW YORK (Legal Newsline) – J.A.M. Construction Corp., a subcontractor performing carpentry work at a Manhattan affordable housing project, will pay more than $80,000 in underpayments and $10,000 in civil penalties due to allegations it failed to pay required prevailing wages to eight workers.

According to the New York Attorney General’s office’s complaint, JAM paid less than the required wage for carpentry work for eight workers at the Selis Manor Affordable Housing Complex located at 135 W. 23rd St. in Manhattan between Dec. 1, 2014, and Aug. 31, 2015.

“We will not allow employers to get away with ripping off their workers,” New York Attorney General Eric Schneiderman said. “We will remain vigilant in protecting the rights of New York’s working men and women, and will continue to use monitors where appropriate to ensure ongoing compliance with the law.”

Section Chief Richard Balletta, Labor Bureau Chief Terri Gerstein and Executive Deputy Attorney General for Social Justice Alvin Bragg handled the case.
