BOSTON (Legal Newsline) — Massachusetts Attorney General Maura Healey has announced I.W. Harding Construction Company Inc. (I.W. Harding) and its owner, James E. Shalek, have been mandated to pay more than $54,000 for allegedly violating the state’s prevailing wage, overtime and record keeping laws.
The company was cited for allegedly breaking these laws at 11 public works projects, including the roadway improvements project in the town of Milford and the Taxiway C reconstruction project in the town of Norwood.
“Companies can’t cheat their employees out of their proper wages in order to gain an unfair advantage over their competitors,” Healey said. “Prevailing wage laws are in place to ensure there is a level playing field for those who work on our public projects.”
Assistant attorney general Erik Bennett was lead on the case after it was looked into by inspector Tom Lam. Both employees work under Healey’s Fair Labor Division.
