N.C. U.S. Senate race: Polls have Tillis, Hagan virtually tied

Kayhagan 150x150

RALEIGH, N.C. (Legal Newsline) – A new round of polls show state Rep. Thom Tillis, the Republican challenger to Democratic U.S. Sen. Kay Hagan, in a virtual dead heat with the incumbent with only a few weeks remaining until Election Day.

On Tuesday, SurveyUSA released a poll showing Tillis ahead by a single point, with voters favoring him over Hagan by a 46 to 45 percent margin.

A Monday High Point University survey had the candidates at 40 percent apiece.

In August, a Public Policy Polling survey showed North Carolina voters favoring Hagan to Tillis by a 42-38 percent margin, with eight percent of those surveyed saying they would vote for the Libertarian candidate, Sean Huagh.

At the start of July, Hagan had more cash to spend to carry her message to voters.

Since 2009, Hagan has raised more than $16.6 million. She had more than $8.7 million cash on hand, according to opensecrets.org.

Tillis had raised more than $4.7 million and had around $1.5 remaining in his war chest as of June 30.
